The Territory

Montaione is the ideal place for your holiday in Tuscany, placed on a hill in the heart of the Tuscan countryside on 373 m. asl. in the province of Florence. Montaione is surrounded by the Valdelsa landscape, with vineyards, olive groves and rows of cypresses. It’s characterized by extensive woods that cover about 10490 hectares, most of the municipal territory.

The origin of Montaione traces back to the Middle Ages. It’s now a village with 3.500 inhabitants and can offer all the services needed on holiday, such as banks, supermarkets, post and tourist offices,  bus service, typical shops and restaurants.
Montaione is set on a strategic position, on an average distance of 50 km from the most famous art cities of Tuscany, Florence, Siena, Pisa, Lucca, and FirenzeSan Giminiano and Volterra are only 30 minutes away by car.

In this way the tourist can do daily trips to these cities, lodging in one of the many accommodation facilities  such as holiday homes, farm houses, B&B, hotels and have a rest in swimming pool or in a typical restaurant.

Montaione has till now based its economy on agriculture but has nowadays taken a new lease of life with the “Green Tourism” connected to cultural traditions, typical food and those authentic values that have been suffocated by the industrial growth of the last 20 years.

In this area there are many vineyards of Chianti D.O.C. and D.O.C.G. , as well as Olive groves for the production of Extra Virgin Olive Oil.  Vineyards and olive groves are typical of the Tuscan countryside and are cared off as gardens by solicitous and scrupulous farm workers.Chianti
